Calderonian Days
Yepes, fondly known as «El Toledillo de la Mancha» / “The Toledillo of la Mancha”, transforms itself each year to honor its renowned past, closely tied to Don Pedro Calderón de la Barca. In 1637, this celebrated playwright of the Spanish Golden Age was commissioned by the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament to write the auto-sacramental, “The Wonder-Working Magician” (El Mágico Prodigioso), a masterpiece that premiered during the Corpus Christi festivities of that year.
This historic event led to the establishment of the Calderonian Days in the year 2000, a baroque festival that has grown to become one of the most significant cultural and tourist treasures of the Ocaña Region. Declared a Regional Tourist Interest in 2015, the festival offers visitors an immersive experience into the culture, history, and heritage of the Very Loyal Town of Yepes.
